Palmistry

Palmistry - reads character and divines - reading the lines and mounds of the hand.

Palmistry, also known as chiromancy, is the psychic interpretative art of telling fortunes or predicting the future from the lines, marks, mounts, and patterns on the hands, particularly the palms.

Palmistry was practised in many ancient cultures, such as India, China and Egypt. The first book on the subject was Michael Scotts De Philsiognomia published in 1477 on the physiognomy of the human body - which included the hand. The term chiromancy comes from the Greek word for hand (cheir). A palmist is sometimes called a chiromancer.

Perhaps the world's most notable expert in this field was 'Cheiro', a Victorian mystic and famous palmist and numerologist, who interpreted palms and numbers for many famous figures of his time including the Royalty. The legend of Cheiro is full with accounts of how he was able to name dates when his famous clients would later die, and even tell them how they would die. Within Cheiro's World Predictions are many fascinating predictions about the world's future.

In palmistry, the reader usually begins by reading the person's dominant hand. (The hand he or she writes with or uses the most.) There are three main lines: The life line, the head line, and the heart line. The shape of the hand and fingers as well as the mounts (bumps) and fine lines all contribute to the palmist's reading.

The heart line is the top line. It is usually deep and extends from one side of the hand and stops near the middle or index finger. The palmist interprets this as what the person experiences with regards to love, romance and their past love experiences.

The next line down palmists call the head line. This line starts at one end of the palm and ends about at the ring finger on most people. This line represents the person's mind, and whether or not he or she values intelligence and knowledge.

The life line, which extends from one end of the palm to the wrist. This line represents the person's vitality and vigour and sometimes helps the palmist to date events.
